We are seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Research Associate on a research project evaluating the effectiveness of the Nuffield Early Language Intervention when nurseries and schools access the training and material through I CAN, the children's communication charity. The study is a randomised controlled trial (RCT) conducted in collaboration with University College London (Professor Charles Hulme), the University of York (Dr Claudine Bowyer-Crane) and I CAN.
Eligibility and other criteria
You will join a team of researchers who are involved with the project and will play a key role in the day to day management of the project under the direction of Dr. Silke Fricke (University of Sheffield; Department of Human Communication Sciences) and Dr. Claudine Bowyer-Crane (University of York; Department of Education). You will co-ordinate and conduct language and early literacy assessments in schools and nurseries, train casual Research Assistants, and contribute to developing assessment material as well as questionnaires. You will also have some management responsibilities in relation to a Research Assistant working on the same project and play an active role in all stages of the research including assessments, data entry and analysis, and dissemination.
You will be a member of an active department and, in particular, the departmental research cluster on typical and atypical speech, language and literacy development. The department has established a reputation for high quality research and teaching in this field as well as in Cognitive Neuroscience of Speech and Language; and Clinical Linguistics.
A PhD is essential for this post and should be in one of the following areas: Speech and Language Therapy/Human Communication Sciences, Psychology or Education. A higher degree (Masters) in a topic relevant to language and literacy development (or equivalent experience) is desirable. The ideal candidate will have experience of randomized trials in education and experience of working in schools.
