Doctoral Scholarships and Doctoral Scholarships for Maori are offered for the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research at Massey University and are awarded on academic ranking.
- Up to 10 Vice-Chancellors Doctoral Scholarships are offered each year. Priority will be given to domestic students.
- A designated number of Doctoral Scholarships are offered each year to applicants with a high Honours degree.
-One Doctoral Scholarship for Maori students will be awarded each year.
The awarding of any Doctoral Scholarship is discretionary and is dependent upon funding.

11 Scholarships are offered.
The Doctoral Scholarships are open to persons who are enrolled or eligible to enrol full-time for a research paper of 120 credits during a 12 month period towards a Doctoral degree at Massey University.
-A full-time candidate will be expected to work 40 50 hours per week on their Doctoral qualification.
-Part-time applicants are not eligible. Applicants already holding a PhD are not eligible to apply.
-Consideration will normally only be given to students with a GPA of 7.0 or better (on a 9 point scale, or 3.7 on a 4 point scale), or an A- average or better in graduate level papers.
-Applicants who are completing Honours or Masters thesis or research report must be due to submit by the end of the year (for October applications).
-Applicants holding academic qualifications from all countries other than New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, or the United States of America must arrange a course by course evaluation

Duration of Awards:
The tenure of the Doctoral Scholarships shall commence by either 1 June (October round) or by 1 December (July round). No deferrals beyond these dates are permitted, except, in exceptional circumstances, with the express written approval from the Dean of the Graduate Research School.
What does it cover?
The value of the Doctoral Scholarship shall be $25,000 per annum to a maximum of 3 years. Recipients are responsible for the payment of their fees.
-Vice Chancellors Doctoral Scholarship
The value of the Vice Chancellors Doctoral Scholarship shall be $28,000 per annum to a maximum of 3 years. Recipients are responsible for the payment of their fees.
