TIGP-Nano Science and Technology Program (NANO)

Important description
About TIGP-Nano Science and Technology Program (NANO)

The Nano Science and Technology graduate program offers specialist training and research opportunities to Ph.D. students interested in: the characterization of nano-materials and nanostructures, new nano-materials and structures, theoretical modeling, nano-device engineering, and nano-biotechnology. Academia Sinica offers this program in collaboration with two of Taiwanメs most prestigious universities, National Taiwan University and National Tsing Hua University. The Nano Science and Technology program has three sub-programs. These are either physics, chemistry, or engineering oriented. Student admissions to the Nano Science and Technology Program are limited to twenty graduate students annually. The majority of entrants are international students. There are, however, up to 10 places available every year for suitably qualified Taiwan nationals. As with all TIGP studies, courses are conducted in English only and participants must meet the minimum English standards for entry into each program. Students can elect to do their thesis research with faculty from TIGP affiliate research universities.

Fellowship and Stipend

TIGP provides fellowship support of NT$34,000 (about US$1,133) per month for all graduate students during the first year of their enrollment. The support will be extended for another two years upon evidence of satisfactory progress towards the degree. In subsequent years, the financial support will be provided by the studentメs thesis advisor. The amount of the support will be at the discretion of the advisor.

Eligibility and other criteria
The Program admits students to the fall semester only. Students (either international students or students from within Taiwan) with a M.S. degree from an accredited institution will be considered for admission to the chemistry-oriented and physics-oriented programs. Those with a B.S. or M.S. degree will be considered for admission to the engineering-oriented program. Selection of program should be made at application. The following criteria will be used to evaluate the applicantメs qualifications for admission:

1. Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's Degree
2. English Proficiency Test Score: TOEFL, IELTS or GEPT (for local applicants) scores
3. GRE Score (optional)
4. Undergraduate and/or Graduate Academic Transcripts
5. Three Letters of Recommendation
6. Statement of Purpose
7. Supporting Documents (ex. publications, original papers)
