Master Thesis in basic biomedical research at German Diabetes Center
Eligibility and other criteria
The German Diabetes-Center (DDZ) is a Leibniz Institute for diabetes research at the Heinrich Heine University (HHU) of Düsseldorf. The DDZ as interdisciplinary research institute links molecular and cell biological basic research with clinical and epidemiological research approaches. The DDZ has the aim to develop new approaches to prevention, early detection and diagnosis of Diabetes mellitus and to improve the therapy of Diabetes mellitus and the treatment of its complications.
The Paul-Langerhans-Group for Integrative Physiology (Prof. Eckel) at the German Diabetes Center is offering a
We are looking for a highly-motivated Master student with a strong interest in basic biomedical research in the field of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Our research group studies the molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance in the inter-organ crosstalk scenario with different cell types. The Master student would join a project to study the impact of early nutritional factors in the development of obesity and type 2 diabetes. The Master thesis will help to characterize the effect of nutrients present in infant formula milk on human fat cell function and inflammation, as well as to identify the underlying molecular mechanisms.
We offer a stimulating research environment and state-of-the-art research facilities embedded in an international network of groups working on the pathophysiological mechanisms of obesity-induced metabolic diseases. More detailed information on current research projects in our group can be obtained at: http://www.ddz.uni-duesseldorf.de
Diploma or Bachelor degree in Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Nutritional Science or other related fields of study)
Basic knowledge of molecular and cell biology techniques
Strong commitment for basic research in Biomedicine
Good communication and cooperational skills
Good knowledge of English
